From the outside, it looks like an ordinary cookie. From the inside … Surprise! As the holidays approach, a season of cooking-baking is upon us. And, to get us started, Barb Averett of Amelia, Ohio sent us this delicious family recipe. Barb and her six siblings grew up in the 1950s. “There was always a lot of baking going on at our house to keep both lunch boxes and hungry children full,” she said. “Everything was always baked from scratch …  nothing store bought for us.” Around Christmas, her mother made Mint Surprise Cookies — a simple vanilla cookie wrapped around dark chocolate wafers. Over the years, finding the wafers in stores, she said, has proven more difficult. Last week, a quick internet search helped her find Wolfgang Candy. Earlier this week, Wolfgang Candy manufactured its Eve’s chocolate topped butter cookies, a European-style treat we’ve produced since 2011. A cookie is adhered to molten chocolate, which is molded into the shape of a chef, one of Wolfgang’s trademarked images. They can be purchased in select independent grocery stores in central Pennsylvania and in our online sweet shop.
