Candy is dandy, but beer is … well … pretty cool, too.
At least, we think so.
And our latest partnership is good news for bar hounds and chocoholics alike.
Wolfgang Candy Company, one of America’s oldest family-owned chocolate companies, has teamed with Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant in Lancaster for a Valentine’s Day release of two chocolate beers.
The first, Wolfgang’s Fulfillment, is a traditional German dunkelweizen accented with vanilla bean and the same Wolfgang raw cocoa nibs that are used to make Wolfgang’s premium Belgian chocolate, infused during the aging process.
The second beer, Wolfgang’s Indulgence, is a milk stout brewed with cacao nibs and nitrogenated to create a cascade character. Both beers are 5% ABV.
Each beer was brewed in 350-gallon batches using a cumulative 12 pounds of cacao nibs donated by Wolfgang Candy Company.
“Wolfgang uses the cocoa nib to craft some of its fine, natural pieces of chocolate,” said Wolfgang Candy Company chief executive officer Benjamin McGlaughlin. “It seems right that Iron Hill would use the same cocoa nib to brew an indulgent, chocolaty craft beer.”
They will be on tap at Iron Hill starting on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, at a cost of $6.25 per pint.
Wolfgang Candy Company also donated 100 Special Reserve Premium Belgian Dark Chocolate Vienna Coffee Bars to be handed out during the beer launch.
“It has always been a traditional thing for all the brewers at this location to do some kind of chocolate beer around Valentine’s Day,” said Chad Rieker, head brewer at Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant. “It’s a win-win. It’s a great local company. We like to support our local businesses, and this is another way to do that.”
