Wolfgang moves from seasonal candy to year round production

“Summer usually means quiet assembly lines at Wolfgang Candy Co., but the North York manufacturer is changing the way it does business.

“We’re growing from a seasonal business to a year-round business,” said company President Andy Jacobs.

Last week, chocolate-coated graham crackers moved across a belt, signaling a greater demand for Wolfgang’s products.

“It’s summer and we’re busy,” he said.”

“Chrissy Albright watched her children put on hairnets and disposable shoe covers. As the Hanover mom got them ready to tour Wolfgang Candy Co. on Wednesday afternoon, she said she hoped they left inspired.”

“Maybe it will spark some creativity. Maybe they’ll leave thinking they can become a pastry chef someday,” Albright said.

The candy manufacturer at 50 E. Fourth St. in North York is one of the stops along the annual Made in America Tours.

Wolfgang Candy names former Hershey executive its new President

“A local candy company has turned to a former Hershey executive for its next president.

The ownership group of the Wolfgang Candy Co. has named Andrew Jacobs to the lead position of president. In addition, Jacobs will partner with Benjamin A. McGlaughlin , the North York candy maker’s CEO, as an equity owner of the company.”

“The Wolfgang Company is a turn-around story,” Jacobs said. “The brand is strong, the company’s manufacturing capabilities are broad and the new ownership group, including Ben and Brad McGlaughlin and the Stillman family, are committed to accelerating the growth of the company.”

Wolfgang happy to get back to thinking about candy

“There’s not much written on a white board inside the office of Wolfgang Candy Co. CEO Ben McGlaughlin. But two numbers in the right hand corner show a lot can change in a year. One number tells how many days are left until Easter. Another number tells how many days are left until candy orders are due.

Though that might seem like a simple countdown for the North York company’s spring sales, to McGlaughlin it’s a welcome opportunity to focus on where the 92-year-old, fourth-generation family business is headed.”
