Wolfgang Candy Company Reports Fourth Consecutive Year-Over-Year Increase in Chocolate Factory Tour Attendance

YORK, Pa. - Wolfgang Candy Company Inc. today reported its chocolate factory tour attendance continues to grow, with 2006 visitor numbers reaching over 13,000. Representing the fourth consecutive year-over-year increase, the latest figures show that the confectionery manufacturers tour attendance has increased by nearly 60 percent since 2003.

"I am very pleased to see that Wolfgang Candy Company, a family-owned York County manufacturer, continues to draw tourists to our area," said Sen. Mike Waugh (R-York). "York County has an exceptionally rich history, and factory tours such as Wolfgang Candy Company's offer visitors a unique, hands-on opportunity to experience traditional craftsmanship."

The Wolfgang chocolate factory tour allows visitors to get a behind-the-scenes look at the classic, European-style candy-making process of one of the oldest family-owned and managed confectionery manufacturers in the United States. Tour attendance, which stood at 8,260 in 2003, soared to 13,242 in 2006.

"Being a family-owned company, Wolfgang Candy believes in the power of factory tours not only to bring financial benefit to their business, but also to provide visitors to York County with an interesting diversion the whole family can enjoy," said Anne Druck, president of the York County Convention and Visitors Bureau (YCCVB). "Wolfgangs educational and entertaining tours have earned national recognition, generated significant revenue for the company and produced considerable economic impact for the community. We at the YCCVB are proud to promote them."

Since York Countys "Factory Tour Capital of the World" tourism brand was launched in 2000, Wolfgang Candy has been an active partner in the YCCVBs efforts to draw visitors to the community. Wolfgang Candy Company participates in York Countys annual Made In America Tours event, which was recently designated by the American Bus Association (ABA) as one of the Top 100 Events in North America for 2006. The 9th annual event is scheduled for November 1-3, 2007.

"We are pleased to report that 2006 was another great year for Wolfgang Candy," said Kathy Krout, retail manager at Wolfgang Candy. "Not only have we seen another impressive increase in our tour attendance numbers, but we were also ranked the No. 1 Candy Factory Tour by AOL CityGuide. As a long-time member of the community, we hope that the national attention Wolfgang has received over the last year serves to benefit all of York County."

Wolfgang Candy offers chocolate factory tours Monday through Friday at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. In the summer, tours are available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the hour.
