Mima Mae

MimaMae

Mima Mae Wolfgang was an integral part of York County’s oldest family of candy makers, who began producing the “sweet stuff” for sale to local customers before the turn of the century. Born Mima Mae Innerst on May 25th, 1880, the daughter of a Civil War veteran, Mima married Delphi Eli Wolfgang on August 18th, 1900. The young couple immediately settled in North York where the Wolfgang family owned and operated a number of thriving businesses. In the fall of 1919, Delphi and Mima Mae, along with their five children launched their own candy factory and found a ready demand for their wide range of delicious treats, from cinnamon hots and lime drops to peanut brittle, five cent candy bars and, in 1921, their first hand-dipped chocolates.

That year, 1921, Delphy Wolfgang and his eldest son Paul formed what is now the D.E. Wolfgang Candy Company. As family matriarch, Mima Mae Wolfgang was central to the success of the fledging business, helping to guide it through its critical early growth years. Mima Mae passed away on January 1, 1957, leaving the tradition of family pride and candy craftsmanship that distinguishes the D.E. Wolfgang Candy Company to this day.
