WOLFGANG CANDY COMPANY ASSURES CUSTOMERS OF SAFETY OF ITS PEANUT BUTTER PRODUCTS
York, Pennsylvania (January 19, 2009) - The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Saturday advised consumers to avoid eating any product containing peanut butter or peanut paste until it can determine how many products have been contaminated. Over the last 36 hours, Wolfgang Candy Company has been in touch with its suppliers of peanut butter and peanut butter products and has received assurances that the materials supplied to Wolfgang Candy are not impacted by the recall and are safe for human consumption.

Peanut Corporation of America on Friday expanded its recall of peanut butter for bulk distribution, which the FDA believes to be the source of the contamination. Previously, the company recalled 21 lots of peanut butter produced on or after July 1, 2008. The company expanded its recall on Friday to a voluntary recall of all peanut butter produced on or after Aug. 8, 2008, and peanut paste produced on or after Sept. 26, 2008, at the Georgia plant.
Wolfgang Candy does not currently source any material from Peanut Corporation of America.
