Wolfgang Berries Selling Overseas
Still walking on air after landing Wolfgangs first national account this January, Wolfgang execs are now flying high with news of Wolfgang Candys first international sale to a company in Japan. Yes, thanks to the connections and experience of Ron Davis of Bell Export Foods Group, Wolfgang Candy is crossing the deep blue seas to the shelves of specialty food retailers in Japanese markets.
Mike Schmid, a managing partner of Wolfgang, and Ron met through a PA food expo formerly sponsored by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, The group steered by Ron includes 32 other PA companies, like Turkey Hill Dairies, Tastykake and Hatfield Quality Meats. During a food expo last March, eight business people from Osaka, Tokyo, led by Keiji Saiki visited Pennsylvania to select products to export to Japan.
Mr. Saiki selected Wolfgang chocolates to be among the foods Sakai Foods International will distribute to Japanese specialty stores. Thanks to Rons international relationships and experience in consolidating freight for lands afar, Wolfgang Candys antioxidant rich Dark Chocolate Berries will now be savored by Japans discriminating chocolate lovers.
Mike said, We were honored to get to know Mr. Sakai, who took time from their whirlwind tour to get to know the people behind the products they have chosen to distribute. Doing so shows Sakai Internationals commitment to bringing quality American products to their fine retailers.
Mr. Sakai shared, “We are very excited to start business with Wolfgang Candy Company. When I first met with Mike and his brother Steve, it was at the mini coop food show in Harrisburg in June 2007. At that time we are not looking for just nice food products from PA, we were looking for something "remarkable" for Japanese consumers. Our first impression for their berries chocolates are that this is the one we were looking for!”
He continued, “We are going to be exhibiting at Foodex show in Tokyo which is the largest food show in Asia held in March 2008. We are convinced that Wolfgang Berries will attract a lot of Japanese food service people, and we hope that this show will make remarkable results for Wolfgang and us.”
Mike commended Ron Davis keen understanding of Asian and Middle Eastern market needs, and says that Wolfgang Candy is proud to serve our fresh, all-natural chocolates to the international community as well as here at home. When my great grandmother Mima Mae was coating chocolate covered berries for the local church bizarre, she never would have imagined 600 cases of her family recipe chocolates traveling over 6,000 miles to make someone smile.
